KarirLab is an early-stage startup incubated at Yale University searching for flexible go-getters who welcome the challenge of meeting the needs of a newly founded business.
We’re specifically looking for a Backend Engineer who will roll up their sleeves and help the founders and team from inside the trenches. You’ll be working directly with a small core team of ex-MBB consulting firms and Southeast Asian unicorns.
As a backend engineer, you will be responsible for the design and implementation of the underlying systems that power a web application. This includes working with server-side technologies and databases to create and maintain the application’s data model and logic, as well as ensuring that the application can handle the scale and performance requirements of its users.
The backend engineer will work closely with the product team and other members of the engineering team to understand the requirements and vision for the web application, and will be responsible for implementing the necessary systems and infrastructure to support that vision. This will involve working with Golang language to create and maintain the application’s server-side logic, as well as working with databases and other data storage systems to manage the application’s data.
The ideal candidate for this position will need a strong understanding of server-side technologies and data management, as well as experience working on complex web applications. They should be highly collaborative and able to work effectively in a team environment, and be able to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Objectives of this Role
- Contribute to back-end development with a focus on maintainability, usability, scalability, and performance, helping with full stack projects as necessary
- Have ownership over your tasks and projects, collaborating with both technical team members and non-technical stakeholders.
- Add and improve our test coverage in our end-to-end, integration, and unit test suites
- Optimize application performance (time and resources used) while taking care of scalability
- Deliver projects within agreed deadlines
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience in back-end engineering
- Experience in building and consuming RESTful APIs
- Experience in using cloud databases (GCP/AWS)
- In-depth understanding of Golang with minimum 1-2 years of experience
- In-depth understanding of relational databases like PostgreSQL (AWS RDS)
- Experience in designing, building, and owning end-to-end development is preferred
- Ability to work independently and deliver within agreed timelines
